Jan Hunt is a multidisciplinary artist and art historian working from Studio 6 at English Bridge Studios in Shrewsbury. With a background in painting and art history, Jan’s practice draws on a wide range of media to explore themes of history and memory, transience and survival, absence and presence.
Her work often takes the form of installation and smaller-scale cabinet compositions, inviting close, contemplative engagement. In recent years, Jan has worked with materials such as metal, clay, cloth, and paper—referencing fragments of clothing and sculptural forms drawn from Classical Greek and Roman art. Through these delicate, evocative pieces, she explores the idea of lingering physical ‘memory’—traces of human presence and natural phenomena that endure across time.
In 2019, Jan presented Ghost Wardrobe, a solo exhibition at Bear Steps Gallery in Shrewsbury, marking the first phase of an ongoing body of work exploring these classical and corporeal echoes.
Thoughtful and materially sensitive, Jan’s work invites reflection on what we leave behind—and what remains.
